Before we knew it January had come and gone like the rush of emails marked “urgent” at 4:59 PM and the leftover holiday cookies I confidently declared I would absolutely not eat (spoiler alert: I ate the cookies).

We kicked things off with our January Close Happy Hour, celebrating balanced books and even better teamwork. Picture it: spreadsheets reconciled, laughter echoing, and someone dramatically whispering, “It balances…” like the final scene where the main characters finally realize they were perfect for each other all along.

Love was in the air, and instead of roses and chocolates, it came with name tags and note-taking at our quarterly Lunch & Learn with Stacy Harris of Stacy Harris Consulting. From Fizzle to Sizzle, connections were made, sparks flew (professionally, of course), and everyone left with a full heart, and fuller list of conversation starters that were less awkward than, “So… come here often?”.

Already halfway through the month?! …it was a short one I guess, but don’t worry, January didn’t ghost us… we’re just playing catch up!

Career Fairs hosted by The Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce and Sam Houston State University were in full swing!

The career fairs were packed, loud, and full of amazing individuals looking to grow both their knowledge and career. At Sam Houston State University, students moved from booth to booth with resumes in backpacks and folders, nervous but eager to introduce themselves and learn about new opportunities in the big ocean they’ll soon be released into! …hopefully with a life jacket, and some life skills wouldn’t hurt.

Between handshakes, a quick pitch, and the occasional “I promise I’m usually not this nervous,” we had a great time meeting everyone. We loved getting to explain not only what being a bookkeeper is, but what it means to be a bookkeeper here at Better Bookkeepers. A place where we live by our core values of Respect, Intentional, Perspective, and Enrichment through and through. Plus, a place where spreadsheets are exciting, numbers tell stories, and asking “Does this balance?” is practically a love language.

Of course, we wrapped it all up with a big Texas YEE-HAW as we celebrated Go Texan Day and the start of Rodeo season here in Houston - because nothing says “professional networking” quite like talking about accounting and financials while wearing cowboy boots with BBQ on the brain. (spoiler alert: I indeed ate some BBQ after this)

~Until next time, see y’all next month!
